Select which order statuses reserve items

After "Warehouse management" is installed in the store, you will get an additional choice in the setup of order statuses (Configuration > Settings > Order Status) called "Order statuses that reserve goods".

Reservation of goods means that there are items that have been deducted from the online store warehouse, but are physically on the shelf in the warehouse yet, because the order has not been processed.

Why should line items be reserved?

In short, all orders where the customer has placed an order, without the order being completed (shipped/invoiced) must reserve product lines. 

It is only when a customer receives the item and an invoice is created that the reservation should be removed and the item instead deducted from stock.

Example of order statuses that should reserve items

All order statuses from the time the order arrives in the online store until the order is processed should reserve the items on the order. This can be, for example, Untreated, In processing, Ready for packing. As soon as the order status changes to the status that completes the order, the reservation should be deleted. 

Order statuses that should not reserve items

Order statuses such as Cancelled, POS, Returned , and Delivered/Shipped should not reserve items as these order statuses indicate that the order has either been completed or returned. 

Example

1: You receive an order in the online store, the default order status for new orders is Not processed. A reservation is automatically created on the item lines

2: The next step for you is to process the order. The order status changes to In Progress. Ourlines still have the status of reserved since the order is still being processed by you.

3: Once the order is packed, it should be sent to the customer. Order status is changed to Shipped and invoice is created via e.g. Klarna. The reservation is now automatically removed as the Completed/Shipped order status should not reserve items.
